In May 2018, P3 pupil Bernard became the youngest deputation speaker at the Council’s Transport and Environment Committee, chaired by Councillor Lesley McInnes at the City Chambers, on the subject of Playing Out. The committee voted on whether to make it possible for residents to temporarily close streets for free so that children can play outside. Bernard is to be congratulated on using his public speaking skills which helped persuade councillors to vote in favour! The councillors were very complimentary about Bernard’s presentation and ‘Playing Out’ was made a permanent policy in Edinburgh! Very well done to mum Louise Drumm and many other Sciennes’ parents (including Claire Wheeler) for their efforts in driving forward this great initiative.
The meeting was webcast and you can see Bernard and Louise’s deputation 21 minutes in: https://edinburgh.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/293987/start_time/1246000
