RESPECT INCLUSION TEAMWORK EFFORT
21 August 2020
We have enjoyed our first full week back at Sciennes. Your children have been just wonderful! It is great to see them so happy and enthusiastic.
Thank you for supporting our staggered start and finish times. This is working really well. I will put a reminder of our requests re physical distancing etc at the end of the Roundup along with a reminder of start and finish times. I know they take a lot of getting used to.
Your children have been busy working on their Class Charters, agreeing which Children’s Rights are most important to them. These will be completed by early September. Please do talk to your children about them. We have tried to get the children outdoors as much as possible and the Meadows have been well used. Mrs Berry our PE Specialist has also spoken to children from P4-P7 about safety outdoors.
We have had two remote online Assemblies on Teams to date. Last week, I delivered a whole school Assembly on Lockdown and sharing experiences. This week we had two Assemblies ( P1-P3) and (P4-P7) and the focus was on Learner Participation. I explained to the children that we want to hear their ideas to help us improve our school. I tied this in at the Early Years Assembly by reading the book, “Five Little Fiends” by Sarah Dyer which is about sharing because we want children to share their ideas to make school better. At the Upper Assembly, children heard about the many different areas for leadership and participation. We have had a few technical issues in some classes but we are getting better at everyone being online together.
Mrs Barton delivered a high quality training session to our Early Years staff on improving writing with a focus on Talking. This complements our Foundations of Writing approach in the Early Years where the focus is on Drawing and Talking. Mrs Barton will also deliver some training to the rest of the school staff.
We were sorry to pass on the unexpected news that extra-curricular football had to be cancelled as of tomorrow. We know the children were so looking forward to it, as were the coaches. Hopefully everyone will be back playing soon. Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to get this important aspect of Sciennes’ life up and running.
At the moment we are also not allowed to have parent helpers in school. We miss your valued support in classes and again we hope to welcome you back at some point.
Thank you for all the second hand uniform donations. The sale will take place after school on Friday 28th August.
I want to thank you all again for adhering to our staggered times and supporting us. Here is a reminder of some actions that will further improve everyone’s safety:
- Once you have dropped your child at school or picked them up, please can you leave the playground and move away from the school promptly (at P1, P2 Drop Off and P1-P5 Pick Up).
- The staggered start and finish times are helping but it can still get quite busy so please ensure physical distancing at 2m.
- You may wish to consider wearing a mask, though that is entirely a personal decision.
- Where possible, it would help reduce congestion if only one adult drops off and picks up.
Have a good weekend.
