P6B Air Quality Monitoring #cleanairday

IMG_1059IMG_1060Thank you very much to Emma Mayes, Environmental Health Officer for City of Edinburgh Council and her team for organising a  Clean Air Day learning event for P6B in Deaconess Gardens by The Pleasance on Thursday 20th June. Mr Hutchison has led Clean Air Day events for the last two years and this year his pupils were able to explore the air quality monitoring station on that site to explain how air pollutants are monitored there.  The team also provided varied and engaging activities and demonstations in the gardens including how human biology is affected by air pollutants, monitoring chemicals in the air, making pledges for Clean Air Day and looking at plans for Edinburgh’s Low Emission Zones. Everyone got a free t-shirt and the event ended with a fun game of tag as air pollution chasers caught ‘oxygen’.
